Types of Funds

Unrestricted Funds

Unrestricted funds are those donated to the Lienemann Charitable Foundation by a donor whereby the Lienemann Charitable Foundation is free to use the donation for any purpose.  Unrestricted donations can be used toward helping offset the organization's operating costs such as rent, labor, utility bills, etc. as well as making charitable grants.  Approximately 81.5 % of the Lienemann Charitable Foundation is comprised of unrestricted funds.

Time Restricted Funds

Time restricted funds are those donated to the Lienemann Charitable Foundation and the donor stipulates that the income from the donation is restricted for use in a particular way for a certain time period.  The time restriction can be what the donor and the Lienemann Charitable Foundation agree to in a written agreement. We have received and accepted a time restricted donation that requires us to distribute the income from the fund to specific 501 (C)(3) organizations for 25 years from the time the donation was received.  At the end of the time restriction the time restricted funds become unrestricted funds and combined with all other unrestricted funds. Approximately 15.0 % of the Lienemann Charitable Foundation is comprised of time restricted funds.

Purpose Restricted Funds

Purpose restricted funds are those donated to the Lienemann Charitable Foundation and the donor stipulates that they retain the ability to determine who will be the recipient of the principle of the donation.  Any and all income from the donated principle accrues to The Lienemann Charitable Foundation as unrestricted income. There is no time limit on the expenditure of the principle of the donation. We have received and accepted several purpose restricted donations that requires us to distribute the principal from the fund to specific 501 (C)(3) organizations.  The donor can at any time release the purpose restriction and the purpose restricted funds then become unrestricted funds and combined with all other unrestricted funds. Approximately 3.5 % of the Lienemann Charitable Foundation is comprised of purpose restricted funds.
